Andrew L. Pecora, M.D. and Robert A. Preti, Ph.D. founded Progenitor Cell Therapy, LLC (PCT), in 1997 as a New Jersey limited liability company.
On March 1, 1999 PCT acquired the hematopoietic progenitor cell and tissue processing laboratory from Hackensack University Medical Center (HUMC), located in Hackensack, New Jersey. PCT began its current business operations, which included providing stem cell and tissue processing services for cancer patients under treatment at HUMC and other hospitals throughout the United States.
Subsequent to its acquisition by PCT, the laboratory was upgraded to a custom-built, 2,500 square foot, state-of-the-art manufacturing facility in a new building within the HUMC hospital complex. The laboratory has since been developed into a nationally recognized center for stem cell engineering.
In August 1999, Nexell Therapeutics, Inc made an equity investment (now held by Baxter International, Inc.) in PCT.
May 2000 saw PCT and Dendreon Corp. signed its first in series of contract for PCT to manufacture PROVENGE and other cell therapy cancer vaccines for phase I, II and III clinical trials.
In August 2001, PCT completed its first round of funding via a private placement memorandum and by December PCT had brought on its 10th client.
In 2002 PCT established its second facility by acquiring space in Mountain View, California.
In 2003 PCT completed its second round of funding via a private placement memorandum and by December PCT had brought on its 50th client.
In 2004, PCT expanded its East Coast processing capacity and established Amorcyte, Inc.
In 2005 PCT completed its third round of funding via a private placement memorandum, launched DomaniCell as a wholly-owned subsidiary, and extended manufacturing contracts with Dendreon for phase III produt manufacturing for Dendreon's PROVENGE.
In 2006, PCT spun off Amrocyte, Inc. to independent investors providing first-round financing. PCT also expanded its manufacturing space in the Mountain View facility.
In 2008, PCT acquired a new facility in Allendale, NJ.
In late 2009, PCT began build-out of its Allendale facility. In October, the CIRM (California Regenerative Medcine Institute) awareded a number of grants to 14 different Disease Teams (averaging $16 million each). PCT is a member of a number of those teams.
In January 2010 PCT announced the first stage of its Allendale facility build was comlete.
